yea , a gambling addiction is fairly easy to get through, well NO not easy…but its kinda easier to avoid gambling then , lets say alcohol, ya know what i mean?
you can just NOT go online, and avoid casinos….unless you live in vegas
but the problem is a relaps can be horrid, even if its just once. I have heard of people losing 300,000 in one night
Treatment for addictions aren’t like treatment for an infection. You can’t go away and put the responsibility of getting well on someone else.
The word "quit" is thrown about too freely. Only the individual can practice the true meaning of the word, and no one else. When it is worth it to him/her, they will quit. Until then, they can make any excuse they desire and put the responsibility on anyone else they wish. There is a price to pay for quitting and another for not quitting. Whichever is higher is the one that will be avoided.
Quitting takes on a whole new appreciation for what work is.
I am a recovered alcoholic, and I believe that different addictions have a lot of similarities. While I don’t think it’s the end all be all, I know support groups such as a 12step program helped me. Good luck.
I used to be addicted to gambling. Like as in spending several hundred in one outing. And going when I knew I shouldnt …..I had to replace the habit or hobby with something else I loved to do. For me I replaced it with a sport that involved practice several times a week and a lot of team mates. I dont think you ever forget about it but you have to become in control. Good Luck You can do it!!!
I think so. As with any addiction, (drugs, alcohol, shopping) the goal is to change behavior. You cannot continue to live like you did before and expect different results. Behavior Modification is the key to sucess in beating an addiction.
Considering the amount of time in addiction their chances might be even better than most . Once a person hits bottom – and has experienced all the highs and lows in between – the advantage of perspective over the addiction is a real gain . Trust me – I know.
