BRC #128 (1) Treatment Centers

Who should we have working in treatment centers? If someone is seeking treament for an alcohol or drug problem will they be better served if the counselor is a former addict? Or, would the viewpoints and orientation, if you will, from a former addict be skewed?

I actually think the term ‘evangelism” is very apt… Back when I still a psych major, it seemed almost every other kid who was also going through it were people who wanted to work as counselor’s at their local church, drug (alcohol is a drug, so why separate it out) rehabilitation was the specific area mentioned. It might be a case of sampling bias, but meh.

As to the main issue, I actually think it’s helpful having someone who knows can empathize with the patient, if for the placebo alone.
